All-time Northern Soul Classics - Two fabulous sides
Vocal / Instrumental back-to-back
THE TRAMMPS first came to our attention with their uptempo remake of the standard âZing Went The Strings Of My Heartâ, released on Buddah Records in 1972, a UK No.29 hit. It would lend its name to âThe Legendary Zing Albumâ, the creation of hit-mixer Tom Moulton, featuring both sides of our classic reissue single. When Moulton did the final mix of âHold Back The Nightâ in New York he was instructed to slow it down, so much so that he was worried about the pitch of Ellisâ vocals. He neednât have worried, it went on to become their biggest UK hit peaking at No.5, higher than their Saturday Night Fever epic âDisco Infernoâ released just a year later. However, it was the instrumental version, âScrub-Boardâ that caught the imagination of the Northern Soul scene becoming a forever floorfiller at the Blackpool Mecca and beyond.
