Producer Mark Barrott AKA Future Loop Foundation signed to Planet Dog in 1996. During his time with the label he released two ground-breaking albums and a couple of EPâs that helped to move Drum nâBass away from being viewed solely as a DJ-friendly genre produced exclusively for a club environment. By overlaying the styleâs syncopated rhythms with rich and melodic multi-layered instrumentation, Future Loop Foundationâs releases helped to redefine Drum nâBass as an album-friendly genre that could appeal to the home listener.
As well as pioneering a new direction for Drum nâBass as an album genre, Mark quickly established Future Loop Foundation as being one of the few Drum nâBass acts that played live. He undertook numerous tours across the UK and Europe, capitalising on the growing appetite for live performances amongst electronic music fans of the late 90âs.
Post-Planet Dog, Mark went on to release a further six albums as Future Loop Foundation before reverting to his own name under which heâs carved out a successful career as a producer of downtempo electronica, releasing a string of albums up to the present date. His most recent album: âEverything Changes, Nothing Endsâ was released on Anjunabeatsâ offshoot label Reflections in November 2024.
This album revisits the âorigin storyâ of one of contemporary electronicaâs most respected producers.
âChilled out Drum nâBass and all the ambient trimmings with a backbone of sturdy, un-chopped rolling jungle drums.â Ben Wilmott, NME 1996.
âA journeying chillout albumâŠof this time and beyond.â Carl Loben, Melody Maker 1996.
âA meaningful and moody album jam-packed with extremely danceable tunes butâŠ. chilled out enough to sit down and relax to.â Cherry Jordan, Knowledge magazine 1998.
âGathers the disparate fragments that Drum nâBass is splintering into and draws them together to make a new intriguing collage greater than the sum of its parts.â The Big Issue 1998
