Kicking off what promises to be an exciting and comprehensive reappraisal of the artist’s repertoire come the first three of Ian’s gold-plated studio albums, available again on vinyl – ‘Do It Yourself’ (1979), ‘Laughter’ (1980) and the all-time new wave classic from 1977, ‘New Boots And Panties!!’

Packed with early Dury classics such as ‘Clevor Trevor’, ‘Wake Up And Make Love With Me’, ‘Sweet Gene Vincent’ and ‘I’m Partial To Your Abracadabra’, ‘New Boots’ is a hugely diverse collection of songs, drawing on influences as diverse as vintage rock ‘n’ roll, music hall, funk and disco.

Warmly received by critics at the time, the album was voted No. 2 in the NME writers’ year-end Best Albums poll. After a modest start, it went on to hit the Top 5 and make the British Top 30 best-selling albums in both 1978 and 1979. Today, it is still frequently cited as one of the greatest British albums ever made.
