When Charlie Byrd toured South America in 1961, Bossa Novaâa melding of Brazilian samba rhythms with the harmonic structures and cool sound of West Coast jazzâwas booming. He brought back records for Stan Getz to hear and they planned a session. The result was Jazz Sambaâthe first album of Bossa Nova music by jazz artists and the one that created the Bossa Nova wave.
