Dance Party
One of the finest LPs to come out of the âgirl groupâ heyday by underrated female soul singer Martha Reeves. Dance Party marked the bandâs third album and, much like The Miraclesâ Mickeyâs Monkey, it mainly consisted of dance tunes. It featured the groupâs 1964 landmark single, âDancing in the Streetâ, their follow-up smash, âWild Oneâ, and the hit âNowhere to Runâ and its B-side, âMotoringâ. The album was mostly produced by William âMickeyâ Stevenson with several nods from Holland-Dozier-Holland. âDancing in the Streetâ, an all-time classic of the era, became one of Motownâs most emblematic tunes, and the groupâs earliest signature song. âDancing in the Streetâ reached #2 on the 1964 Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was covered by many artists like The Mamas & The Papas, Van Halen, the duet of David Bowie & Mick Jagger, The Kinks, Grateful Dead, and Little Richard, among others.
